Research
Our founding research cycle is underway. The first findings — on how AI is genuinely used across venture capital, private equity, investment banking, and wealth management — will publish here.
Why this matters
Every firm in finance is racing to put AI to work — and most of what's said about it is hype. Honest research is how you tell the real edge from the expensive noise.
AI is already reshaping how capital is raised, how deals get done, and how clients are served — and venture, private equity, banking, and wealth are all sprinting to adopt it. That race is exactly why careful, first-hand research on what genuinely works, and what doesn't, is worth doing now.
We won't publish until we have something real to say. No borrowed statistics, no recycled hype — just first-hand research from conversations with people doing the work. That takes a little time, and it's worth the wait.
The research agenda
-
01
Efficient uses
Where AI genuinely creates an edge in research, diligence, and dealmaking — and how the best teams actually capture it.
-
02
The ROI gap
Where the cost and the hype run ahead of the real payoff — the tools, claims, and spend that don't earn their keep.
-
03
Real workflows & systems
How investors and bankers use AI day to day in practice — the unglamorous, concrete adoption behind the headlines.
What we're studying
Eight directions, mapping how AI is actually used across finance.
The questions we're digging into across venture, private equity, banking, and wealth — separating where AI earns its keep from where it doesn't.
- 01
Search & sourcing
Is AI surfacing better opportunities — or just more noise?
- 02
Document analysis & diligence
Where data-room and filing AI saves real hours vs. where it can't be trusted.
- 03
Drafting & generation
Memos, CIMs, decks, client comms: first-draft speed vs. narrative and credibility.
- 04
Modeling & quantitative analysis
What holds up in valuation and forecasting vs. where it breaks.
- 05
Research & market intelligence
Differentiated insight, or commoditized summaries everyone already has?
- 06
Client & advisory work
Adoption in wealth and advisory vs. fiduciary and trust limits.
- 07
Risk, compliance & operations
Where AI quietly works best — and is least hyped.
- 08
The tooling & adoption map
Which tools are real and sticky vs. vaporware.
How we research
We don't recycle hot takes. We go to the source.
-
01
We talk to the people doing the work
Interviews with analysts, associates, and partners across banking, private equity, venture, and wealth — plus direct surveys of practitioners and interns. We test the tools firms actually use, and we track what they're hiring for.
-
02
We ground every claim in real data
Industry research — McKinsey, BCG, the Evident AI Index — alongside earnings calls and company filings. Sourced and cited, not rumor.
-
03
We watch where the conversation lives
LinkedIn, Reddit, X, and practitioner newsletters tell us what to investigate next — leads we then verify at the source before we publish.
